This chapter seeks to advance existing work, focusing on selected chronic conditions, to provide a broad picture while highlighting the key challenges involved in quantifying the burden of chronic disease. It will draw on a wide range of data sources, thereby promoting a better understanding of the available evidence. Although the focus of this chapter will be on the European region, we will refer to other high-income countries where appropriate.
